Both Swanage lifeboats were launched following a request from the St Albans Coastguard team for assistance in recovering an injured man from the Dancing Ledge area. The man had been ‘coasteering’ and had suffered a dislocated shoulder and any movement was difficult. The D Class inshore lifeboat (ILB) transferred pain relieving gas to the casualty before bringing him carefully to the all-weather lifeboat (ALB). After transfer he was made comfortable for the passage back to Swanage where he was met by paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment.
While the volunteer crew were walking the casualty to the waiting ambulance, the next call for the lifeboats was received…

Swanage Lifeboat Station is one of over 230 RNLI lifeboat stations around the coast of the UK and the Republic of Ireland. The RNLI is a charity and relies on voluntary contributions from the public to keep its lifeboats at sea. At Swanage we have two lifeboats, an All Weather ‘Shannon’ class lifeboat and a ‘D-Class’ inshore lifeboat. We have a volunteer crew comprising 30 sea going crew and four shore crew who launch and recover the boats.
